There are different types of wall clocks online for sale. The ones that are usually made of superior materials and partly handcrafted, are grandfather clocks, cuckoo clocks, mantle clocks, and pendulum clocks.
Let’s first talk about cuckoo or Black Forest clocks. Yes, sometimes they are referred to as Black Forest clocks, because that’s where they come from: The Black Forest in Germany. They make a cuckoo sound every hour of half hour. Personally I don’t like the sound, but this kind of clock is, and will always be, one of the most popular ones.
Then there are mantle clocks. They often have an elegant rectangular shape with the clock face in the center.
It was the Dutch astronomer Christiaan Huygens, who invented the grandfather clock in 1656. He used Galileo Galilei’s pendulum invention of 1582 to realize this.
And last but not least it was the book by Edgar Allan Poe that made the pendulum wall clock famous. Both the grandfather clock and the cuckoo clock are powered by the same mechanism as the pendulum wall clock.
